What Drives Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to help people understand their buildings and make informed decisions that lead to safe, durable, and well-performing homes. Through thoughtful structural engineering, clear communication, and practical solutions, we provide homeowners, designers, and builders with the clarity they need to confidently maintain, improve, and build lasting structures.

Our Vision

We envision a built environment where homeowners feel informed rather than overwhelmed, where structural issues are addressed thoughtfully rather than reactively, and where buildings are cared for with an understanding of how they work and how they endure over time

Meet Our Engineer

Ricky McLain

Ricky McLain

Mass Timber Advisors is led by Ricky McLain, Structural Engineer, who has over 17 years of experience working as a structural engineer in Central Vermont.

Ricky is intimately familiar with local building codes, regional loading and weather conditions, and the permitting processes common throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.

As a homeowner himself, Ricky understands the uncertainty that often come with structural concerns — as well as the fulfillment that comes from improving and maintaining a home.

He also brings a long history of hands-on construction experience, from small addition projects to gut renovation and large-scale construction, and believes engineering solutions are only effective if they are practical, buildable, and cost-conscious.

These principles — along with absolute clarity — guide every project.
